520 _aThe struggle of women has been documented for millennia in the pages of many literary works from the historical period. Women have always been forced to walk three steps behind males throughout history and considered the weaker and inferior sex and society has always had strong standards about how they should dress, act, and behave both publicly and privately, based on a set framework determined by Patriarchal notions and cultural expectations. They have always been socially positioned beneath males and expected to defer to them in all aspects of their life. Some writers, on the other hand, moved forward with their strong and sure strides with the advent of feminism, projecting their voices that had been silenced for ages where women were supposed to be nothing more than a doll in the hands of men and where the helpless. This edited book Women's Voices: Projection of Women in Literature attempts to explore women's voices and projection of their general victimisation, their agonies and subjugation as well as portrayal of 'new emancipated women' in different literary texts throughout history.
