General note 'Underutilized fruits are less-known, less appealing, less-exploited fruits which are generally used is smaller locality or region. These are rich is many vitamins, nutrients and nutraceutical compounds. The underutilized fruits may be categorized in two groups i.e. indigenous and exotic. India has a rich diversity of fruits and several fruit plant species such as jack fruit, bael, aonla, ber, jamun, mahua, phalsa, lasoda, karonda, wood apple, bilimbi, kokum etc. have originated in Indian subcontinent. Several exotic fruits such as rambutan, avocado, longan, mangosteen, passion fruit, wax apple, durian etc. were introduced in India from South America , Africa, south east Asian countries during last four centuries. These fruits are rich in certain nutrients and slowly these are making place in our food baskets. The precise information on these fruits is compiled in this book for students and general public.'

General note Dr. P. C. Tripathi is working as Head (IC), Division of Plant Genetic Resources, IIHR, Bangalore. He worked as Scientist, Senior Scientist, and Principal Scientist, Section In-charge, Head, Regional Station and Krishi Vigyan Kendra in different ICAR institutes and SAUs. He has been associated with more than 25 research projects including 10 externally funded projects. He released four varieties of fruits and identified 10 promising lines of underutilized fruits and develops 6 prototypes of equipments and 10 production and post- harvest technologies of mango, onion and garlic etc. Last ten years, he is working on underutilized and wild fruits. He published more than 100 research papers, 129 research abstracts, 49 popular articles, 40 technical bulletins, 5 books, 30 book chapters etc. He is associated with several professional societies and receiv��ed several awards.
