General note 'Specific emphasis has been placed long back through the education on vegetable science with the publication of the text-cum reference book in a single volume Vegetable Crops in India as early as 1986. Keeping the demand and interest of the stakeholders in view, this book was revised further in 1993 and 2003 under three volumes in the name Vegetable Crops. Wide array of modern research approaches on vegetable crops in India and abroad during last two decades warrants further revision of the book in fourth edition in four volumes. General note Professor T.K. Bose obtained his M.Sc. (Ag.) and Ph.D. degree from Calcutta University, West Bengal, India. Trained at the Royal Botanic Garden, Kew, UK. Former Secretary of the Agri-Horticultural Society of India; Project Coordinator, All India Coordinated Floriculture Improvement Project (ICAR); Professor and Head, Department of Horticulture; Dean, Faculty of Agriculture; Director of Research, Bidhan Chandra Krishi Viswavidyalaya, West Bengal; Member of Scientific Advisory Committees of ICAR, CSIR (Govt. of India) and Government of West Bengal. Awarded Honoris Causa (D.Sc.) from OUAT, Bhubaneshwar and UBKV, Coochbehar, India. Guided around 45 Ph.D. students, published more than 250 research papers and authored 30 books on horticultural crops. Prof. M.G. Som served as former Vice-Chancellor, Dean, Faculty of Agriculture and Professor of Vegetable Science, Bidhan Chandra Krishi<br/>Viswavidyalaya, West Bengal. He obtained his M.Sc. and Ph.D. degrees from ICAR-IARI, New Delhi. He received fellowship in 1997 and Plaque in 1998 from the Indian Society of Vegetable Science (ISVS). He served as FAO expert in Bangladesh for increasing the vegetable production. Prof. Som acted as a member of governing body of the ICAR, New Delhi; member of Advisory Research Council, ICAR-IIVR, Varanasi, and ICAR-CIARI, Port Blair, Andaman. He has published more than 100 research papers, written 8 books, 2 monographs and few bulletins and several popular articles. He has guided 14 Ph.D. students and more than 50 M.Sc (Ag.) students. In 2019, ISVS felicitated Prof. Som for his outstanding contribution in the field of vegetable research and education.
