| Summary, etc | Poetic Theory and Practice of T.S. Eliot is a comprehensive study of the whole oeuvre of T.S. Eliot—his poetry, criticism, drama, and social writings. Attempt has been made to study the philosophical element in Eliot’s writings. The book critically examines the influence of Bradley on the whole corpus of Eliot’s creative writings and critical opinions. Using the tools of ‘background’ and ‘domain’ assumptions, attempt has been made to bring out Eliot’s philosophical moorings and sociological preoccupations.

The book includes eight chapters along with Works Cited and Index. The first chapter deals with Eliot’s views on poetry and art; and the influences behind Eliot. The second chapter brings out Bradley’s influence on Eliot’s poetic theory and his practices as a poet. The third chapter deals with the domain assumptions and some early influences which determined the course of Eliot’s creative writings and critical opinions. The fourth chapter is on Eliot’s theory of poetry where the use of poetry and the use of criticism have been described. The next three chapters are on Poetry, Dramatic Theory, and Drama. The final chapter is the conclusion of the whole works. |
