Inspired with a passion for these subjects, the author felt the need, to establish a close link between ‘Strength of Materials’ and ‘Design Engineering’ and that ‘Strength of Materials’ as a subject, needs to have a ‘Mechanical Engineering’ orientation, when the subject has been conventionally dealt under Civil Engineering. Through his book, the author was keen to clearly and coherently impart the ‘fundamentals’ of Strength of Materials to the readers. This book is intended to benefit different segments of target audience—right from under-graduate and post-graduate students and teachers of Mechanical Engineering, in Universities and Engineering Colleges across India, practicing professionals, Design Engineers and Engineering Consultants working in Industries and Consulting organizations.
