Conversations on a Country Path about Thinking
Calculative vs. Meditative Thinking
Heidegger expresses concern that humanity is in "flight from thinking," meaning we are increasingly losing the capacity for meditative thought due to our over-reliance on and immersion in calculative thinking. This flight from thinking, he suggests, leads to a kind of "homelessness" in a world increasingly dominated by technology. He argues that while we cannot simply reject technology, we must find a way to engage with it in a non-calculative manner, allowing for a space where meditative thought can flourish.
