Public Distribution System is a government sponsored chain of shops entrusted with the work of distributing basic food and non-food commodities to the needy sections of the society at very cheap prices. Social inclusion is a process which ensures that those at risk of poverty and social exclusion gain the opportunities and resources necessary to participate fully in economic, social and cultural life and to enjoy a standard of living. In drought prone areas the PDS is expected to be more effective, especially for underprivileged in the process of social inclusion. The study provides the structural changes in public distribution system in India. The study highlighted the problems faced by the beneficiaries of public distribution system and suggestions for betterment of the target groups in the process of social inclusion. This book will be much useful for the UG, PG students, researchers and academicians.
